After leaving the forces, many veterans feel that they are left to fend for themselves, often having to cope with chronic pain, anxiety, depression and PTSD.
At Wellford, we believe that we should care for our veterans. That’s why are offering free care for veterans, which means no consultation or prescription fees for life.
Our Veterans’ Access Scheme is our small way of saying thank you to those who have risked their lives to defend our country and our way of life.
But with your support we can do more.
We’re joining forces with veterans to ask the UK Government to reimburse veterans for the cost of their medical cannabis.
In Canada, veterans can reclaim payments for medical cannabis. Australia and Israel also fund or reimburse veterans for medical cannabis treatment.
We believe UK veterans deserve the same level of care.
That’s why we’re calling on the UK Government to fund a Canadian-style medical cannabis reimbursement scheme for veterans.

Veterans have much higher rates of long-term physical and mental health challenges than the rest of the population.
We recently commissioned Censuswide to survey 300 UK veterans. Veterans told us:
had been diagnosed with a long-term physical or mental health condition
were not aware medical cannabis is legally available on prescription in the UK.
*Source: The research was conducted by Censuswide, among a sample of 300 UK adults who have previously served in the UK Armed Forces. The data was collected between 14 and 29 September 2026. The UK Government’s Defence Investment Plan includes a commitment to spend £70m to support veterans, including £38m for NHS services. We believe some of this additional money could fund a pilot programme to test the viability of Canadian-style medical cannabis reimbursement scheme for UK veterans.
Veterans Affairs Canada reimburses eligible veterans for up to 3g of dried cannabis flower per day or the equivalent amount of cannabis oil. The Canadian Government has reimbursed veterans for medical cannabis since 2007 including 32,106 veterans in 2025-26. Veterans are reimbursed at a rate of CA$6 per gram, which VA Canada says reflects the Canadian market price for medical cannabis.
