Dr Bunny Forsyth

MBChB MRCPsych

I am a Consultant Psychiatrist with over 20 years’ experience at this level. I have a friendly, open and warm consulting style. I have previously worked in adult mental health (intellectual disabilities), then moved to my current role in NHS Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) in the North East. I provide mental health assessment and treatment for a variety of mental disorders, with particular interest in ADHD, trauma and complex anxiety. I have published and presented extensive research in the UK and internationally.

As the undergraduate lead tutor for Newcastle University Medical School, I regularly lecture and have strategic oversight of mental health teaching to 3rd and 5th year student groups.

After graduating from The University of Bristol in 1995, I commenced training in general adult psychiatry in London. I returned to Bristol to continue varied training including psychiatric intensive care and the Bristol Specialist Drug Service. I completed higher specialist training in Gloucestershire and ran epilepsy clinics in Cardiff under Professor Mike Kerr.

I moved to the North East to take up my first consultant post in 2004, specialising in complex comorbidity, trauma, autism and adult ADHD. I then spent 8 years working in forensic services at low and medium secure levels developing expertise in polypharmacy, addictions, PTSD, Personality Disorder, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), risk management and women’s mental health. I am trained in autism assessment via ADOS and ADI (2014 onwards).

Since moving to CAMHS in 2022, I further developed expertise in ADHD, autism, comorbid epilepsy, sleep disorder and complex anxiety with specialist skills in trauma informed care.
