Consultant Psychiatrist
Dr Vijay Delaffon is an experienced Consultant Psychiatrist with a specialist interest in the use of medical cannabis to support patients with complex mental health and neurological conditions. He has been practising as a Consultant since 2011 and brings over two decades of clinical experience in adult mental health across both NHS and private services.
Dr Delaffon works with patients who are exploring cannabis-based medicinal products (CBMPs) as part of their treatment for conditions such as ADHD, anxiety, PTSD and mood disorders. His approach is careful, evidence-based and highly personalised. He takes time to understand each patient’s medical history, symptoms and goals, helping them navigate treatment options safely and confidently.
With a background in General Adult Psychiatry and Addictions Psychiatry, Dr Delaffon has extensive experience assessing complex presentations and supporting patients who may not have found relief through conventional treatments alone. His training in addiction medicine also provides valuable expertise when prescribing controlled medications, ensuring treatments are used responsibly and with patient safety at the forefront.
Alongside his clinical work, Dr Delaffon has held senior leadership roles within the NHS, including Clinical Director where he led large multidisciplinary teams and helped develop high-quality, patient-focused services.
Dr Delaffon also holds a Master’s degree in Psychiatric Research Methodology from the Institute of Psychiatry, London, and has contributed to a number of peer-reviewed publications. His research background supports a practice that combines clinical experience with the latest scientific evidence, particularly in emerging treatments such as medical cannabis.
